A soldier stole a monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament in it from a church in Exilles and sold it to a merchant who placed it on his donkey and went to Turin. However, outside the Church of St. Sylvester the donkey fell and would not move in spite of the encouragement with a cane given by the owner.
The monstrance fell off the donkey and the crowd who had gathered were amazed by the brilliance of the Host in the monstrance. But they were even more amazed when the monstrance rose up 10-12 feet into the air, and stayed suspended in the air.
The Bishop and city officials arrived. It was then that the monstrance sprung open and fell to the ground. The Host, which was surrounded by a brilliant light, remained suspended in the air.
As everyone was praying the Host descended slowly and gently into a chalice which was held by the Bishop. It was brought to the Cathedral and 131 years later it was still incorrupt. An unusual order was sent from the Vatican to consume the Host. The order was obeyed , but the people continue to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in church.
Jesus keeps His promises that He would give us His Flesh to eat and His Blood to drink (John 6:48-59).
At every Mass, for the last 2,000 years, when the priest says the words of consecration (this is My Body and this is My Blood) the bread and wine are changed into the Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity of Jesus Christ. All Christians believed this miracle happens at Mass for the first 1,500 years until the Protestant Reformation.
The red blood cells in fresh blood break down over time (24 to 48 hours) without refrigeration.
