Fr. Lazarro was a priest at Santa Maria Assunta church in Bagno di Romagna, Italy in 1412. He had doubts that Jesus was present in the Eucharist. He said the words of Consecration, “This is My Blood,” over the wine in the chalice. To his astonishment, he saw the wine turn into Blood which began to throb resulting in some of it spilling on the corporal.
In 1958 tests showed that the corporal held real Blood and that this Blood on the corporal contains all the properties of fresh blood even though it is over 600 years old. The corporal can be seen in Santa Maria Church today.
This miracle shows us:
Jesus keeps His promises that He would give us His Flesh to eat and His Blood to drink (John 6:48-59).
At every Mass, for the last 2,000 years, when the priest says the words of consecration (this is My Body and this is My Blood) the bread and wine are changed into the Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity of Jesus Christ. All Christians believed this miracle happens at Mass for the first 1,500 years until the Protestant Reformation.
The red blood cells in fresh blood break down over time (24 to 48 hours) without refrigeration.
