Jean (John) du Bois, a young man from a wealthy family, was asleep one night when he was awakened by a strong, soft voice calling his name. He saw a young man, about 30 years old, wearing a blue coat and light surrounding him. The young man opened his coat and Jean saw that his body was covered with wounds, some of the wounds were bleeding. Also, there was a large wound in his side. This vision happened on 3 occasions. The young man told Jean, “Go to the Chapel of Isaac. I will be there, and you will know who I am.” In the chapel Jean saw Jesus on the cross, and he knew it was Jesus who appeared to him.
The priest came to celebrate Mass the next morning. When he opened the corporal, which is placed under the paten and chalice, he noticed that there was a piece of the large Host from the last Mass on it. He tried to remove the piece, but it was solidly attached to the corporal. What shocked the priest, the piece of the Host began to bleed. It bled during the Mass.
The priest turned white, and Jean, who had observed everything, comforted him by saying, “Do not fear; this marvel comes from God”, and he related his visions. For four days, that is until Tuesday after Pentecost, the Blood continued to flow. Then, having stained the entire corporal, the Blood coagulated little by little and dried up. The Miracle was seen and attested to by many. The Miracle was acknowledged by the Bishop and Pope and the stained cloth can be seen in the Chapel at Bois-Seigneur-Isaac. A procession is held every year to honor Jesus who is truly present in the Eucharist.
This miracle shows us:
Jesus keeps His promises that He would give us His Flesh to eat and His Blood to drink (John 6:48-59).
At every Mass, for the last 2,000 years, when the priest says the words of consecration (this is My Body and this is My Blood) the bread and wine are changed into the Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity of Jesus Christ. All Christians believed this miracle happens at Mass for the first 1,500 years until the Protestant Reformation.
The red blood cells in fresh blood break down over time (24 to 48 hours) without refrigeration.
